DHCP option 66

Last updated: 2026-07-15

DHCP option 66 tells a phone where to download its configuration during the DHCP handshake. Use this method when the phone does not support RPS, or when you prefer to keep provisioning inside your own network.

Steps

  1. 1

    Get the provisioning URL

In Dromlik, go to Auto Provisioning → Settings and copy the provisioning URL for your PBX.

  2. 2

    Configure your DHCP server

On your DHCP server (Windows Server, dnsmasq, Mikrotik, pfSense, etc.), add option 66 with the value set to the URL from the previous step. Restart or reload the DHCP service.

  3. 3

    Register the MAC in Dromlik

Under Auto Provisioning → Add, enter the phone's MAC and pick the extension.

  4. 4

    Boot the phone

The phone requests DHCP, reads option 66, downloads the config from Dromlik, and reboots. It comes back registered.
