Let users pick their outbound caller ID (DOD)

Last updated: 2026-05-29

By default every outbound call from a Drömlik extension uses the main number of the trunk that carries it. That's fine for a single-team office, but as soon as you have a sales line, a support line and a personal direct dial, users need to choose which number callers see. Drömlik calls this Direct Outward Dialing (DOD).

Once you grant a user a list of allowed DOD numbers, they can pick which one to present from the Drömlik App every time they place a call — or pin a default.

Before you begin

  • The trunk that carries the calls must already have the candidate numbers configured. DOD can only present numbers the carrier actually owns and has authorised — presenting an unowned number gets blocked by the carrier or marked as spoofing.
  • You'll need administrator access to the trunk and to the extensions you want to grant DOD to.

Step 1 — Add the numbers to the trunk

  1. 1

    Open the trunk

Go to Trunk, select the SIP trunk and switch to the DOD numbers tab.

  2. 2

    Add each number

Click Add and enter the E.164 number (e.g. +35315678910) plus a friendly label users will recognise (e.g. "Sales", "Support Dublin").

  3. 3

    Save

The number is now eligible to be assigned to extensions. It's not active for anyone yet — that happens in step 2.

Step 2 — Assign DOD numbers to an extension

  1. 1

    Open the extension

Go to Extension, click the user and switch to the Features tab.

  2. 2

    Pick the DOD numbers

In the Outbound caller ID (DOD) section, click Add and select the numbers from the list. You can grant as many as you like.

  3. 3

    (Optional) Set a default

Mark one of the assigned numbers as Default. Drömlik uses it on every outbound call unless the user picks another. If you don't set a default, Drömlik uses the trunk's main number.

  4. 4

    Save

The change applies on the user's next outbound call — no sign-out needed.

What the user sees

In the Drömlik App's dialer, a small caller-ID selector appears above the keypad showing the current outgoing number. Clicking it opens the full list of allowed DOD numbers; the user picks one for the next call, or pins a new default in their profile.

Common patterns

  • Reception agent: grant the main switchboard number plus the personal direct dial — defaults to main switchboard.
  • Sales representative: grant the sales hunting line — that's the only choice, no risk of presenting the wrong brand.
  • Field engineer: grant a generic "Drömlik Support" number so the customer's call-back lands in the queue, not the engineer's personal voicemail.

Troubleshooting

The DOD selector doesn't appear in the Drömlik App. The extension has no DOD numbers assigned. Add at least one from the Features tab.

The chosen DOD number is replaced by the trunk's main number on the receiving end. The carrier rejected the presentation — usually because the number isn't registered on that trunk. Confirm with your carrier that the number is provisioned for outbound presentation.
